What if breast cancer is just the start of an incredible journey? In 2004, two young breast cancer survivors - Megan Dwyer and Meredith Campbell - asked that question of more than 250 breast cancer survivors from around the world. This amazing group of women developed lifeling friendships across the globe, celebrating life and changing the world through advocacy, fundraising and local community projects.
Over 7 years, until 2010, Amazon Heart created and inspired 20 adventures on 4 continents, in 6 countries, and raised over $1 million for charity. Independent research studies showed that not only did our adventures change the world, but those who took part changed their own lives with measurable, positive shifts in their psychosocial adjustment to life after breast cancer.
In 2010, Megan and Meredith retired from Amazon Heart. A new charity, Amazon Heart USA, has been founded by some of our past participants and we have gifted them our name, and our knowledge, to continue providing life changing adventures for people diagnosed with cancer. Although we have no involvement in the new organisation, we wish them great success and look forward to seeing how our idea grows and changes in the future, just as our adventures were based on the successful programs of others in the past.
Visit the Amazon Heart USA website for more information on their current adventures.
